Ecclesiastes tells us that “to everything there is a season.” Sometimes seasons of change seem to happen in bunches: as we prepare to SOMEDAY move into our new sanctuary, as we celebrate Suzanne’s transition to college and covenant vows exchanged between Michael and Micheal and Lindsey and Sarah. This particular season also brings a bidding of sad goodbye to the Friesen’s. We had fun at our farewell roast, we’ve been moved by Steve’s last Invitation to the Joy of Giving (see newsletter) and the kids are enjoying a final party with Janice and the latest Harry Potter book (as well as pulling weeds from the playground). The Peace Community has a potluck picnic and swim in their honor at 6 pm tonight (7/17) at Stephens Lake (to which we’re all invited) and then the moving van rolls out for Austin and we’re left with a gaping hole in our community. Our Nominating Committee has done what it can to fill the void and the board approved their recommen-dations as follows: Kathy Brown will complete Steve’s term as moderator; Steve Miller Janice’s term as board secretary; Amy Jones Janice’s term as deacon; and Diane Haas Janice’s term as nominating committee chair. We are grateful to these individuals for stepping up to these tasks. As we say goodbye to the Friesen’s, we thank God that they were with us as long as they were, that they will continue to be part of us as Rock Bridgers-at-large, and that they can bring their gifts (now with an RBCC accent) to witness to Christ’s message of peace, justice and love to Austin which no doubt needs it! May God continue to bless them on their way and us in our continuing witness here. Shalom, Maureen |
