CELEBRATIONS AND PRAYER CONCERNS

Our prayers and sympathy are with Scott MacFarland on the death of his father Scoville (at the age of 99) . . . We were happy to have Suzanne Wetz back with us for fall break – the first time since leaving for Vanderbilt (which she loves). She had a great visit with Vandy alum Dan Gibson when he was in Nashville for homecoming . . . Winnie Gordon gives thanks for successful cataract surgery – one down, one to go! . . . Esteli Garcia and Debo Glay made and sold a lot of pottery to help raise funds for Access Arts . . Congratulations to Linda Reed Brown who has will receive a John Bennett Award at the Missouri School of Religion Center for Rural Ministry banquet on Nov. 18th at Lenoir . . . Congrats to Maureen Dickmann who is celebrating 20 years of ordained ministry and 18 years as pastor at RBCC!

RBCC “TAKES A CHANCE”

During worship on Oct. 2nd, Chance Beeler came forward to join by transfer of membership from the Vineyard Church in Columbia. He is employed in human resources at Home Depot, and is the proud father of an 11 year-old daughter. We’re happy to have him already singing with the choir.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

On Sunday, Nov. 20th RBCC celebrates its 24th birthday. We will mark the occasion with a special fellowship dinner following worship. Since it’s so close to Thanksgiving, we decided to buck tradition and celebrate with Irish fare. Bring a side dish and join us for corned beef and cabbage on Nov. 20th!

CHI RHO

RBCC Chi Rho Youth Group for 6-12th graders will meet Sunday, Nov. 6th, from 12:30 - 2:00 pm for food, planning time and games. They will also hear a short report from Tabi and Jordan about their experiences at the Northeast Area Youth Rally. The group will next meet Sunday afternoon, Dec. 4th.

RECONCILIATION OFFERING

This year’s Reconciliation Offering was $518. This is about $300 less than last year’s offering. It’s not too late to donate for the Reconciliation offering. Just mark your check or envelope “Reconciliation.”

WOODHAVEN HOSTS DINNER

NBA Woodhaven’s annual fundraising dinner will be held at Lenoir Woods Community Center on Wednesday, November 16, at 6 p.m. There is no charge to attend the dinner. Woodhaven will, however, ask for a pledge or gift at the dinner, but the amount of that gift is entirely up to each individual. The theme for the evening is “The Art of Independence,” and there will be live music and an art exhibition featuring artwork created by the individuals with developmental disabilities who are served by NBA Woodhaven. NBA Woodhaven serves over 100 men and women with disabilities in Columbia and is affiliated with the Disciples of Christ. If you would like to attend the dinner, or need more information, please contact Jaime Freidrichs at NBA Woodhaven. Be sure to mention that you want to sit at the Rock Bridge table.

WASTE WATCHERS AIRS FILM ABOUT 9/11

Join us Friday, Dec. 2nd for a showing of 9/11 and American Empire, a riveting exposé featuring David Ray Griffin, author of The New Pearl Harbor and The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions. The evening will begin with a potluck supper at 6:30 pm and the movie will start at 7:15 pm. Abe Haim, a member of Students for Progressive Action, will be on hand for discussion following the film.

FINANCIAL NOTES

It takes $6,800 of general income each month to meet our operating expenses. Our operating income for the first four weeks of October was $7,886. This is great – however it still doesn’t make up for the previous four months of lower-than-anticipated income. Contributors will get their nine-month giving statements today. This may serve as a reminder if you’ve fallen behind. Thanks for your continued financial commitment to RBCC!
