SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS

Adults: Join the adult Sunday School class at 9:30 a.m. this summer to study and discuss the book God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It by Jim Wallis, theologian, preacher, faith-based activist, author, and editor of Sojourners magazine. “God’s Politics offers a clarion call to make both our religious communities and our government more accountable to key values of the prophetic religious tradition. . . . Wallis inspires us to hold our political leaders and policies accountable be integrating our deepest moral convictions into our nation’s public life.”

You don’t need a copy of the book to participate. Copies of the portions to be discussed will be available.

NOTE: Children’s and Teen Sunday School classes are not meeting this summer.

OFFERING/FINANCE UPDATE

It takes $6,800 every month of general offering income to meet our expenses. Our income for May was $9,694! If you need to modify your estimate of giving (increase or decrease), if you want to make a pledge, or if you have other questions about your contributions or the church’s finances, contact Kathy Brown at kbrown4@socket.net. If you make your contributions in cash and want a record of them, please put your money in an envelope and make sure your name is on it. Please make separate contributions for building and general fund since the accounts are separate.

WASTE WATCHERS LEAVES HOME

After a successful year of working to change personal wasteful habits, Waste Watchers decided at the June meeting it was time to broaden our focus to wastefulness and injustice at the systems level. We will continue to meet on the first Friday of each month with the new goal of educating ourselves and taking individual and group action to change unjust practices and social policies in our state. Join us on July 1 for a potluck at 6:30 pm followed by discussion and plans for action.

CAMP UPDATE

We received donations to cover half the cost of each of our three campers’ fees. Thanks to those who contributed. There are still openings in some of the camp events. Contact the Northeast Area Office (442-5815) if your child would like to attend.
