Congratulations to Amy Jones on receiving her MSW from Mizzou on May 13th. It was great to have her and her mother Ella and great aunt Earlina in worship with us Mother’s Day… Kudos to Tabitha DenHartog who graduated from SoBoCo HS and will attend Moberly Area Comm College..Congrats also to Rachel Carter who received her BA the same day from the University of Iowa (in only 3 years)… Linda Reed Brown saw Barbara Allen in North Carolina recently and reports she is doing well, gaining strength, walking twice daily and is even planning a trip to Chicago later this year! Thank God for such good news and continue to hold Barbara in your prayers… Ann Harrell is off to the Grand Canyon for a 10-day biking-rafting adventure…The Rogers family traveled to London this month to attend the opening of Marvin’s son’s play on a West End stage… Ruth Carter had follow-up knee surgery May 19th … Van Taylor’s mother Rosemary from Camdenton broke her hip in Columbia preparing to take him to Kansas City for a swimming meet. She returned home May 15th…Congrats to Annie Glay who is enjoying her job at McDonald’s near the mall… Matthew Harrell graduated from Army basic training and is receiving further training in Oklahoma…John Chelleh will soon be receiving his green card.

INTERNATIONAL POTLUCK

We will celebrate Pentecost June 4th by wearing red and bringing our favorite international food to share in a potluck following worship. The red signifies the Holy Spirit and our food variety recognizes the diversity of people in Jerusalem for the birth of the church that first Pentecost. Join us!

We will also be collecting our Pentecost special offering on June 4 and 11 which goes to help start new Disciples churches in our region and throughout the denomination.

COMING THIS SUMMER

CrossWalk America is a national effort that includes eight individuals walking from Arizona to Washington DC to raise awareness that right wing fundamentalism does not represent the whole of Christianity. They’ll be in Columbia July 1-2 and a community-wide event will be held at RBCC Sunday evening July 2nd at 7 pm and will include music and speaking. Check out their website at www.crosswalkamerica.org.

Adults are needed to volunteer to help with child care for those under 5 during worship. There is a sign-up sheet at the church. Contact Ann Robinson if you have questions. Thanks!

The Adult Sunday School class continues their study of the Gnostic gospels each Sunday morning, gathering at 9:30 and beginning at 9:45 a.m. Children’s Sunday School will not meet until the fall, when the Education Committee plans a new program that will offer Sunday School twice a month during worship time (following the children’s message). See Ann Robinson for more information or to volunteer to help with this program.
