*NOTE: Waste Watchers will not meet in March due to the Friday Lenten video series.



LENTEN VIDEO SERIES

RBCC will continue its tradition with the third annual Friday night Lenten Video Series. This year’s series will focus on prayer. Steve Friesen has a variety of videos in the line-up.

The series will begin this coming Friday, Feb. 11th, with a pot-luck supper at 6:30 p.m. The video and discussion will follow.

The adult Sunday School class will also focus on the same topic, using clips from the video during the Sunday morning class (9:30 a.m.).




CELEBRATIONS AND PRAYER CONCERNS

Congrats to Suzanne Wetz on being chosen as a finalist in the Presidential Scholar competition . . . Our sympathy and prayers are with Moses Glay on the recent death of his brother in Liberia . . . Please keep in your prayers Janette Garcia’s nephew Mauricio in Bolivia who has serious heart problems, Cheryl Moutray’s father who is suffering with breathing complications, and Steve Friesen’s father who is undergoing pain management therapy . . . Please continue to pray for the search process for our next General Minister and President.




ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

Join us this Wednesday, Feb. 9th at 7 p.m. for a service to observe Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season.

WEEK OF COMPASSION

The Week of Compassion offering will be received on February 20 and 27. You already know that a lot of support will go for recovery to the tsunami....we can tell you anew that our Week of Compassion dollars are helping flood victims in Ohio, Indiana, Texas, and California. But, exactly what do Week of Compassion dollars often purchase??? Check out this list: mosquito net: $10; water pump: $80; rake/ shovel: $11; pushcart/ wheelbarrow: $31; 50 kg. rice seed: $20; 100 kg. bean seeds: $20; bicycle with water mount on back fender: $120; family-sized tent for disaster survivors: $175; landmine protective vest, visor, mine probe: $450; average cost of a well for an entire village: $3,700; tractor, seeds and farming tools: $10,000 ... and there's more! Your dollars help volunteers rebuild homes, make people safe, get spiritual care. (Go to www.weekofcompassion.org for an update on the latest tsunami relief efforts.)

NEW MEMBERS

Cindy Heinz came forward Jan. 30th to transfer her membership from Newman Center. After being a registered nurse, Cindy returned to school to earn a master’s in special education. She is working at Shepherd Blvd. Elementary School this year. She and her husband Bob have three children: two daughters in college and son John, who attends Oakland Jr. High. Welcome!




LENTEN PRAYER BREAKFAST

The Interfaith Council’s Lenten breakfast schedule for 2005 is as follows. All breakfasts are on Wednesday mornings from 7 to 8 a.m., and $1 or a donation for the Food Bank is requested.
